Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) – Plant Description
📏 Size & Growth
Height: Typically reaches 12 to 14 feet in cultivated landscapes
Trunk: The most distinctive feature—swollen at the base, resembling a bottle (hence the name). The trunk is smooth, gray to brown, and has noticeable ring scars from fallen leaves.
Crownshaft: Just above the trunk, a smooth green crownshaft supports the fronds.
🍃 Leaves (Fronds)
Type: Pinnate (feather-like) fronds.
Number: Usually holds about 4 to 6 arching fronds at a time.
Length: Each frond can be 6 to 10 feet long.
Color: Bright green, sometimes with a slightly yellowish hue near the base.
🌱 Origin & Habitat
Native to: Round Island, off the coast of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean.
Habitat: Prefers tropical and subtropical climates. Often grown as an ornamental plant in warm climates or as a patio/indoor plant in cooler areas.

Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
Temperature: Best grown in USDA zones 10 to 11 (tolerates temps down to around 30°F/-1°C, but not for long periods).
